Video with VAST Preroll does not on iPad mini

Dear Ethan,

we have an issue with the current JW player Ads Edition in combination with VAST prerolls on an iPad mini (only tested on iOS 6).

When a user opens our website and starts a video playback where a Preroll Ad should be shown before, he only sees the Loading Ad Idle Icon and nothing more. It works perfectly on a Desktop device and we can asure that the adserver also delivers video ads in this moment. On the Mobile device (even in Desktop mode), neither the preroll clip nor the actual mp4 video does start. It is also impossible to skip the PrerollAd. This is not ideal b/c the advertising feature banishes all our website visitors in this case because they cannot watch the actual video clip.

See a screenshot here ... http://www.regio-tv-stream.de/preroll.PNG

What can we do to prevent this behavior? Might it be an issue on player side or on adserver side?

Thanks in advance

André

Hi,

I can’t seem to get an ad to appear on Flash or HTML5 with your example page. Is there some sort of geoblocking being implemented here?

That's possible.
Unfortunately, we do not have direct access to the Adserver and VAST configuration.

Can you alternatively try to use a proxy in Europe or Germany?

At this time, we do not have the ability to utilize proxies to troubleshoot. If you can, please create a non-geoblocked tag.

Unfortunately, we do not have direct access to the Adserver and cannot influence the geotagging.

But we tracked down the issue so far that it might be related to the Browser Engine.

The issue primarily occurs on the iPad within the Dolphin browser (Desktop mode). There, the preroll video playback based on the JW player in HTML5 mode stops with an idle indicator on the first video frame and the user has no way to skip it.

When we test it on the same iPad with the Mobile Safari browser, everything works as expected. That's really odd b/c we thought that the HTML5 rendering is not that browser dependent.

Our adserver provider currently checks if the issue might be related to an encoding misconfiguration but the preroll clips itself can be played.

Can you reproduce this behavior in a Dolphin browser, or can I report this experience in an issue tracker?

Greetings, André

I don’t believe we currently support dolphin on iOS due to its low browser marketshare.
