why does jwplayer v.5 support seeking with audio files (mp3) and v.6 does not?

i have been using an older version of jwplayer (5.10.2295) and just looked to upgrade to the latest version (6+).

reading through the notes on this site i see that version 6 does not support seeking forwards/backwards without using a streaming protocol like rtmp. why then, is version 5 of the player capable of supporting this feature without using any streaming protocol?
i am able to seek forwards and backwards when playing an mp3 here, just fine with version 5.

am i missing something?!

yes, sure.

i just noticed that the file seeks ok in chromium 31 (gnu/linux) - and is not playing at all in firefox 28.. i don't know why.

i just uploaded a 44.1khz mp3 file to show that i can successfully seek and skip the audio:

i have only tested this in chromium and firefox.

i just tested a webm video too - and i am not able to seek/skip with jwplayer 5.

i don't mind running an rtmp server to gain the seek ability - however, i only use free software and i only see paid software being recommended on your site here. would i be able to use red5?

oh, i am mistaken.. i can skip and seek with webm too.. i must have been clicking in the wrong place.

oh, my mistake again! that video file is an mp4 file, not a webm file.

with jw6 (tested locally) - i see that i am unable to seek with the same mp4 video file and also unable to seek with mp3 files.

the mp3 audio file is not shown with a seek bar at all - no progress bar is visible to click. and when i load the player 40px high - the compact audio format - the volume control is also unusable since it fades out as i move my cursor over it to change the volume slider's position.
