Files Outside Web Path

Is it possible to use JWPlayer with files that live outside of the web path?

I have an external drive that contains my music files and I want to be able to listen to them anywhere by creating a webpage with JWPlayer embedded.

Is this possible? The OS is Linux.

It's not at the moment but would it worked if I symlinked it into the web directory?

If the file is an mp4 file, the player can read it by setting the type variable to mp4, for example.
