JW Player 6 not working with .mov in Firefox

Hi.

JW Player seems to work fine with .mp4 and .mov files in Safari and Chrome, but it seems like Firefox, .mov files, and JW 6 don't get along.

The page below

http://www.wellesley.edu/Computing/k/JW6/test.html

when displayed in Firefox 16.0.2 on my Mac, gives the error

"Playlist could not be loaded: No playable sources found"

but works fine in Safari and Chrome.

Or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks....k

Your MIME TYPE for this video is:

Content-Type video/quicktime

It should either be:

video/mov

or video/ mp4

Ummm.....I think the bigger answer is that JW Player 6 doesn't officially support .mov videos any more.

It only supports .mp4, .flv, and WebM now.

The fact that JW Player 6 *is* able to show the .mov file in Safari and Chrome is.... a fluke?

Try this link, it should work fine.

It does not.... Looks like you can no longer play back .mov files if you set the default playback to flash.

Huge problem for us.

I think I found out what's going on here JW Player 6 defaults to HTML5 playback which means you have to consider browser limitations when it comes to video playback compatibility. Using .mov files means Chrome and Firefox will not play back .mov files. In previous versions of JWPLayer the default was Flash playback which meant you didn't have the same limitation.

In order to make .mov files work with JW 6, you need to specify the file type explicitly as mp4.

bc.. <script type="text/javascript">
jwplayer("myElement").setup({
playlist: [{
image: "imagefile.png",
sources: [
{ file: "FB7BE7AF-6CB4-42D1-B73E-827069AC65E6.mov",
type: 'mp4'
}
],
title: "Title"
}
],
primary: 'flash'
});
</script>

Having issues with .mov and JWPlayer 6 in conjunction with Cloudfront streaming. I keep receiving a "Stream Not Found" error. As far as I can tell I have the properly formatted .mov file that should be compatible with the JWPlayer. I see KP found that if you explicitly list the .mov as an MP4 it should work. How would I go about doing that via the Embedder Shortcode?

Code looks like this:

[jwplayer config="xxxx" file="xxxxx/xxxx-xxx.mov"]

*Note: All of my .mp4 and .m4v files stream perfectly*

Please clarify. Thanks.

Do you have a link? Embedder shortcode won’t work in jW6 yet.

Gotcha. Maybe I had that wrong and don't have JW6 yet. Will double check. My code is as follows:

[jwplayer config="music channel" file="October 2012 Broadcast Content/Rock On - In Studio.mov"]

Ah, ok. Can I see where this code is running?

Absolutely, but it is on a password-protected page via the S2Member wordpress plugin. Can I email admin login info for security sake? Please provide email address if possible.

MOV file support is not working for me either see below. In our case we use RTMP as primary then HTML5 as secondary.

Is RTMP with MOV no longer supported?

RTMP + MOV should still work. How was the file encoded? Do you have an example of that file being served via HTTP?

Hi Ethan,

Sorry I gave you the wrong link. Direct link is:

http://progressive.policyreview.tv/FAIR_ENERGY_V2_H264_512K.mov

URL of player for this footage is:

http://www.policyreview.tv/video/861/6391

This worked prior to our upgrade to version 6.

I downloaded your file and MediaInfo says its encoded in MPEG-4, not H.264

Do you have an example of this working in V5?

KP`s solution solved my problem by adding file types
Thanks!

bc.. <script type="text/javascript">
jwplayer("myElement").setup({
playlist: [{
image: "imagefile.png",
sources: [
{ file: "FB7BE7AF-6CB4-42D1-B73E-827069AC65E6.mov",
type: 'mp4'
}
],
title: "Title"
}
],
primary: 'flash'
});

I'm also having the same issue in Firefox -- but like someone else posted here, am working off a password-protected page for a university.

Here's the code -- JWPlayer is actually loaded up into the course and works w/o problem in Chrome. Students are receiving a "video not found" error.

<script type='text/javascript' src='/CurrentCourse/jwplayer/jwplayer.js'></script>

<div id='mediaspace'>This text will be replaced</div>

<script type='text/javascript'>
jwplayer('mediaspace').setup({
'flashplayer': '/CurrentCourse/jwplayer/jwplayer.flash.swf',
'file': '/CurrentCourse/videos/Curriculum Spotlight- Principles of Accounting (1).mp4',
'controlbar': 'bottom',
'width': '800',
'height': '450'
});
</script>

Using this same code, I don't have any problems in other browsers. Is there a plug-in I can upload to the course for Firefox users or something?

Thanks,
Stacey

Add to that -- just checked in IE again and get this error message:

"Playlist could not be loaded:
No playable sources found."

But the exact same video works in Chrome....

Help!
