SecurityError: Error #2028 - Problems with external videos
Hello all!
We are using JW player for showing videos on our site, which stored on different web servers. But i don't can link to external files, only to local stored files.
I created to test this piece of code from wizzard, but the same effect: the player will be shown, but the movie will not play.
<script type='text/javascript' src='swfobject.js'></script> <div id='mediaspace'>This text will be replaced</div> <script type='text/javascript'> var so = new SWFObject('player.swf','ply','470','320','9','#ffffff'); so.addParam('allowfullscreen','true'); so.addParam('allowscriptaccess','always'); so.addParam('wmode','opaque'); so.addVariable('file','http://content.longtailvideo.com/videos/flvplayer.flv'); so.write('mediaspace'); </script>
After searching I found this exception protocol from the flash runtime:
SecurityError: Error #2028: Local-with-filesystem SWF file file:///D:/mediaplayer/player.swf cannot access Internet URL http://content.longtailvideo.com/videos/flvplayer.flv. at flash.net::NetStream/play() at com.longtailvideo.jwplayer.media::VideoMediaProvider/load() at com.longtailvideo.jwplayer.controller::Controller/play() at com.longtailvideo.jwplayer.controller::Controller/playHandler() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at com.longtailvideo.jwplayer.events::GlobalEventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at com.longtailvideo.jwplayer.view::View/forward() at com.longtailvideo.jwplayer.events::GlobalEventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at com.longtailvideo.jwplayer.view.components::CoreComponent/dispatchEvent() at com.longtailvideo.jwplayer.view.components::DisplayComponent/clickHandler()
The file exists and I can download it from the longtailvideo-servers, but the player can't access the files. My question is why it can not access?
One strange thing on the problem is, that the same problem is with the silver-light player. No external files, only local files, will be played. This is realy confusing.
I tested it on several systems and there was no different. No firewall or proxy is between the systems and the servers.
i've got the same problem! I think the mistake is, that the video can't open the file. Maybe there aren't rights for the player to open. Sometimes it work, but often it isn't okay.
I have the Same Problem... but Not just with JW Player...
The reason I went looking for JW Player is because I have the same problem with Any video being played by Any Player.
I have searched everywhere trying to find the source of this problem and no luck.
Example: I downloaded the "mediaplayer-5.2-viral" from your website and un-zipped it... Inside is the "Readme.html"... which when I click on it, it opens the page in my Browser, but does NOT play the included Sample Video... "video.flv" - nor does it display the sample image "preview.jpg"...
Instead, I get the Error #2028 message where there should be video playing.
I have to ASSUME that the "Readme.html" has code that is supposed to Load the "video.flv" file from the same folder on my Hard Drive, as all the other files from the zip are stored... (player.swf, swfobject.js, and yt.swf) --- I have tried to open this "Readme.html" file with Three Different Browsers, and get the same Result. -- No Video, just the "Error #2028 msg."
I don't think it's a problem with Your Player, as I have the same Problem no matter WHAT player I am using, and I have downloaded a half dozen so far.
Note: I have No Problem viewing streaming video on YouTube or any place else with any of these 3 browsers, yet... when I try to "Embed" the code into a web page of my own making, the video will not play... using Any Player, or using the "embed code" from various FLV conversion Software, or the code provided from ANY video sharing website such as YouTube etc.
I kept thinking that there MUST be a problem with Either the Player I am using, or the web page I am making, but Obviously Not, since the "readme.html" page that You Provide as an example, has the same problem.
Help Please! -- I have spent Days trying to work this out and I;m going Nuts in the persuit of the solution. Mark
All I am trying to do is to have a video play on my web page... and I am writing and testing the web page on my PC, before sending it to a server for the web.
I don't see why I can't play a video that is stored on my Hard Drive, in the Same Folder as the webpage.html file, and the flvplayer.swf and so on.
Supposedly, I AM supposed to be able to do this, as ALL of the "Help" web sites supply the "Object Code" to "Embed Video" on your web page... and thay ALL say exactly the Same Thing YOUR website says...
"It's That Easy... Just Copy and Paste the Code Below into your Web Page... and Replace the "your video" statment with the location of the video you want to play."
Well... Maybe it works that way for the Rest of the world, but Not for the people who are leaving Comments on the Error #2028 Page... as they are ALL having the Same Problem as I am.
Makes No Sense!
On your provided "Readme.html" file, I have to Assume that it also is Supposed to Provide the "Embed Code" for the Video that it DOESN'T PLAY... as is says the same thing about Copy and Pasting the code... but I don't get any "Embed Code" to copy and paste...
All I get is a Black Box where the video is supposed to be playing... and the "Error #2028" msg. (it's 2:03am here, and I have been working on this problem since I got up this morning, or I guess yesterday morning now... Please help!
...and please don't ask for anaddress where you can see this, as there IS None. I am running this on my home PC... which IS where Your "Readme.html" is Supposed to be Run... and it Does Not Play the Video.
Hello, I just wanted to add... I went to your "jw-player-setup-wizard" page again, and left all the settings in their Default...
Please Note that when I view Your Wizard Page, your Video Player, DOES show up, and the Video DOES play correctly...
Copied the Code at the botom to My Webpage... and No Luck!
it's a Very Simple Page, just to show the Video as a Test... I can add all the rest later once I get a video to play... but so far no luck there.
Below is the code of my "test page"... You can see whee it says <!begin JW Script> under that is where I copied and pasted the code provided by the wizard. Please see if you can see a problem.
I have the "player.swf" and the "swfobject.js" in the same folder with this test.html, so I am clueless as to what is happening.

Downloaded, unzipped and opened the Readme.html from harddisk. In my case opened it with Google Chrome. This is so easily to reproduce. So, please tell us, what is the reason of this error message??
@Razvan – This is because you are loading the Viral version of the player, which connects to us to load the plugin. Since you are loading the readme locally, and not in a web environment, Flash reports this error because of Flash security settings.
If you use this version of the player, it will not have the error, and will work locally – http://www.longtailvideo.com/jw/upload/mediaplayer.zip
I've got a problem with video playing at www.gracelink.net/podcasts When you click on Kindergarten and select the Animation option, several of my users see a play button with a line through it. I can't seem to duplicate the problem, but I have enough complaints, from varied locations to know this is recurring problem for many. One user sent the following error.
Task Queue failed at step 4: View setup failed: Error#2028
The files are on a media server and prior to two weeks ago we didn't have this problem.
Error #2044: Unhandled error:. text=Task Queue failed at step 6: Playlist could not be loaded: Error #2048: Security sandbox violation: http://www.gracelink.net/site/1/jw51/player.swf cannot load data from http://gracelink.net/podcast.php?channel=6.
The issue here is that you are loading this file – http://gracelink.net/podcast.php?channel=6
But you need to be loading – http://www.gracelink.net/podcast.php?channel=6
We've fixe the link off the podcasts and republished the page. However, I'm still getting email saying they see a play button within a circle with a line through it. I don't see it, but many do. (cue Twlight Zone theme).

And check the enclosed file in <codehttp://www.in3xpresiondesign.com/pluggins/nets.rar</code>
I bro thanks for the Help. Grettings From Colombia!
This is probably a silly question... I keep getting the error "Task Queue failed at step 4:View setup failed: Error #2028" where I should have a jwplayer playing a movie embeded into my webpage.
Do I need to be running the jwplayer from a server of some sort? Thank you.
After downloading from link that Ethan supplied in this thread http://www.longtailvideo.com/jw/upload/mediaplayer.zip and unzipping it to a new folder, the readme.html displayed player correctly and locally tested projects displayed without error #2028.
Returning to the original folder with download from Longtail site the readme.html displayed player with error #2028. I conclude that the downloaded zip file from the site contained the error and Ethan's link to zip file contained no error.
@Anders L – The download from our site and the one I linked people to are the same thing. You need to make sure when you are downloading the player from our site that you uncheck the “Viral Plugin” checkbox. That’s it.
I downloaded medialplayer on Nov 15th and it worked fine. Today I downloaded it again, -viral is added to the name of package and I got the same error message. The only difference is player.swf. The good one has the size of 97107 and the bad one has the size of 97119

Windows 7 64-bit. Task Queue failed at step 4: View setup failed: Error#2028 Really helpful error message. It appears as if there is little support for the POS.
got the same problem. Local videos were displayed fine. Remote videos do not show up. I even copied the code inside the embed tag from preview of the setup wizard and pasted it into the readme.html of the download directory. No success. It's not a browser problem as some of you have noticed. Firefox and IE 7 fail in the same way. It's a security problem with flash player 10, perhaps with earlier versions too. My work around is as follows:
1. Locate the flashPlayerTrust directory, on a Windows 7 system look for C:\user\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\#Security\flashPlayerTrust
2. Write a txt-file (i.e. myflashDirs.cfg) with a line (lines) where you specify the path for the directory (directories) where you put your player.swf. Lines starting with #-sign are comments. For details look at http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ActionScript/3.0_ProgrammingAS3/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118a9b90204-7c95.html, section "The Global Flash Player Trust directory"
I had same error#2028. I found this web site, followed Ethan's solution. Now, I can see readme file's video but I can not see on my web site (which is on my pc, not on the web). I copied/pasted code inorder to see on my web page, but I cannot see.
Hi, I see this problem is written many times, but I still can't make it work... please be so kind and check http://www.gschiuma.com/masterclasses/ where I have a .flv file which is perfectly working on localhost but not on web...
http://www.gschiuma.com/masterclasses/AB.flv brings me to a 404 not found page. Make sure you have the MIME-TYPE set for FLV if you are positive it is there.

I had downloaded http://www.longtailvideo.com/jw/upload/mediaplayer.zip as wanted to display some video locally with a html page (but not on the web). Unzipped mediaplayer.zip and could play the readme.htm file. I had replaced the filename video.mp4 with my own video file name in the readme.htm and although the player button scroll, nothing is seen in the blackbox.
I thought the file name might be too long and changed to DOS eight character shortname with the same result, can suggest what could be the problem ?
Microsoft@Windows Version 5.1(Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.101209-1647:Service pack 3).
No change of code in the readme.htm from the zip file except for the filename replaced with my video. Put back as video.mp4 and it is still playing both video and audio. Replaced with my filename as shown below, audio is heard but video is not seen. Tried both firefox and ie both same result. Also tried width="640" height="300" and still with no video seen and only audio heard when play button clicked. bc.. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head>

I can play my file with media classic player without any problem. Anything to do the size of the file that the jwplayer can handle ? My video was captured with nokia x5 smartphone.
Huh? Guess I have to look for another player or another way of embedding videos in a local folder to be played.
Though both are mp4 files, the header were a bit different. The video file from the zip download was mp42isomavc1 and some other characters. The video not showing up was mp423gp4isom and some other characters.
I tried a video capture with a sony ericssin k660i phone and the mp4 file created had a different header from the above two. Tried replaced the video file and again only audio heard and no video seen, ie only a black blank screen although the scroll button move to the end of the video player display.
This is indeed most frustrating. Using the non viral version, all files dropped in where the video resides which is on a network storage drive which does not have internet access, so no I can't provide a link.
All I did was swap the video.mp4 with my video which resides in the same path. fails big time in any browser. Does not error out but just sits and spins like it is trying to do something. Swapping the original video back and plays just fine.
It is odd that so many people are having issues with just swapping a video file name stored in the same local path. According to what i read the non viral version does not need to access the net if i understand this correct.
This is not rocket science in just swapping the video file name and doing a copy/replace within a html file. I don't get it. The video is in the correct format as well.
" ...which is on a network storage drive which does not have internet access, so no, I can't provide a link ".
I honestly do not understand why a link is needed if we are using a version of this that is suppose to work locally?
There is obviously something that is preventing us from modifying an html file and swapping video.mp4 to whatever.mp4 and getting it to work successfully. It should be as simple as changing the code to whatever.mp4.
the following is some code in what I am trying to accomplish:
<video width="640" height="480" controls > <!-- MP4 must be first for iPad! --> <source src="Aclient.mp4" type="video/mp4" /><!-- Safari / iOS, IE9 --> <source src="Aclient.webm" type="video/webm" /><!-- Chrome10+, Ffx4+, Opera10.6+ --> <!-- fallback to Flash: --> <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="640" height="480" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="player.swf"> <!-- Firefox uses the `data` attribute above, IE/Safari uses the param below --> <param name="movie" value="player.swf" /> <param name="flashvars" value="autostart=false&controlbar=bottom&image=poster.jpg&file=aclient.mp4" />
</object> </video>
I am basically trying to get a fall back on flash if native video cant be used within the video tag. this works in Firefox4 and IE 9, but not older browsers. I have tried variations of this and everything works but the flash part. This seems to be most frustrating to a lot of people.
Since you are trying to do fallback to Flash, why don’t you just simply use the JW Embedder? We already support this feature in the embedder, and you don’t need to write your own custom fallback code.
Thank You for the info. I tested this at home within a Virtual machine, disconnected the network device, and I was able to successfully get this to work. both with native video and using exclusively flash as well. I used the contents from the link below:
Your example of the JW embedder also worked ( I actually removed the clsid).
I have yet to test this at work on a NAS drive which uses UNC paths. I will provide some feedback once I get to work and test this out, and whether or not I have to use the full UNC path to point to the files, vs using relative paths ( I was actually thinking this could be mu issue as I was writing this).
Hopefully I will have some positive results to report back tomorrow, and may sole some of the above user issues.
Hi Ethan, i was using the viral version and i got the same error people talked about comments above ! Then i downloaded the non viral version and it worked, the readme.html played de video but, before that i had a mensage warning me that player.swf is trying to comunicate to readme.html, i click ok and then i can play de video. Well i believe it's not a big deal, but how can i avoid this mensage and jump straight to the video when i load the page ? Before you ask, i can't provide a link since i'm making tests witht readme.html locally in my computer !
Ethan, first sorry for the 'mensage', thinking in english and writing in portuguese and thanks for the reply ! I'm sure i downloaded the correct version, i unchecked the "Viral Plugin" checkbox and i downloaded it at least 3 times to make sure i wasn't doing anything wrong but i got the same message from readme.html ! What i noticed is that when i run the readme.html in my computer at work, which runs Windows 7 64b, i got that message but, when i run the same file in my computer at home, which runs Windows XP SP 3 32b, aint got any message and it plays the video perfectly. Any idea of what could be happening, maybe some extra security configuration that i missed ?
I'm sorry i can't provide a link at moment because, as i said, i'm making tests locally ! What looks weird to me is the fact that today i've made tests in two diferents laptops, one with windows Xp SP3 32b, again it worked perfectly, on the other hand when i made tests in a laptop with Windows 7 64b again i got the same security warning. I don't think it could be a problem with the file path, since all files, including my own html file which i created to test, and the readme.html file which comes in the mediaplayer directory, both had the same behavior in both situations and i didn't do any change on readme.html file.
I am using the player you recomended in this tread to run local media.
Here is the html,
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>JW Player for Flash</title> <script type='text/javascript' src='jwplayer.js'></script> </head>
<body> <div id='container'>This div will be replaced by the player</div> <script type="text/javascript"> jwplayer('container').setup({ 'flashplayer': 'player.swf', 'id': 'playerID', 'width': '400', 'height': '310', 'controlbar': 'bottom', 'file': 'sample.mp4', 'plugins': { 'metaviewer-1': {position: 'left', size: '200'} } }); </script> </body> </html>
It is loading the metaviewer-1 plugin from our CDN, and due to Flash security restrictions, you cannot access files on actual web addresses when running something locally.
I'm running everything on a single server install, with Wowza media server 2.2.4, wirecast 4.1.1 (15596), and JWplayer media player 5.7 (nonViral). I am trying to perform a live streaming broadcast and use JWplayer to view the live stream. I've looked through the "Quick Start guide.pdf" and see what appears to be the settings to use for live streaming. When I put them in a html file and try to view the live stream it says it cannot connect, and gives an error # of 2028. Here is the contents of my HTML file...
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <script type='text/javascript' src='jwplayer.js'></script> </head> <body> <div id="mediaplayer">JW Player goes here</div> <script type="text/javascript"> jwplayer("mediaplayer").setup({ flashplayer: "player.swf", height: 270, width: 480, image: "Jersey.jpg", provider: "rtmp", streamer: "rtmp://127.0.0.1:1935/live/", file: "myStream.sdp" });
</script>
</body> </html>
Everything is stored locally and there is no public link to my machine. Is there anything I can do with JWplayer, wowza and wirecast to view a live stream? Is there another combination of applications I can use to watch a live stream?
I have a similar issue to some of the others posted here. I'm trying to access an rtmp stream from an external server. I downloaded the code from JW player, saved the code listed below in an HTM and when I run it locally I get a message "cannot connect to application: error #2028". I have the correct (non-viral) version of JW player in the same folder as my HTM files. I can run the code in JW player and see the video from the external server without issue, but when I open it in IE from my PC, I get the error message. I don't understand the other posts about FlashPlayer - if that's the problem. Just hoping someone can help as I'm very frustrated! Thanks.
Works fine – http://developer.longtailvideo.com/trac/testing/?player=v5&skin=&file=atp.flv&provider=rtmp&streamer=rtmp%3A%2F%2Ffms.uml.edu%2Fuml&height=260&width=500
Ethan - thanks for your response, but not sure how that helps me. I have no problem playing the video within your environment. The problem is when I take the code from JW player and then save it in an HTM file on my computer and then try to play it in IE it gives me that error. So the code doesn't work outside of Longtail for me. Any suggestions?
You are trying to connect to an RTMP stream from your local disk. This is not possible because of a Flash security restriction. It has to be on the web, or at least on a web server.
bc.. This error can be caused for a variety of reasons. In most cases the server is rejecting the request. When Flash get the response from the server.
- incorrect path to the upload file script check relative and absolute paths - a incorrect location for the files to be stored on the server specified inside server-side upload script check path is correct and permissions are correct - file is too large so server rejects it check max file size - there is no space on the server to save the file check server hard drive space - your actionscript handler is going out of scope because its declared locally, etc create a strong event listener or declare the file reference on the class
here is a good reference to have handy http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/runtimeErrors.html
