h264 video will not start until entire file downloads

I converted a video on my mac using Quicktime. I exported as "h.264"

The video plays fine, but it will not start playing until the entire file downloads to my system.

Is this a JW Player configuration problem, or could it possibly be an encoding problem?

If it is an encoding problem with regards to Quicktime, I know this is probably not the proper forum for that, but any tips as to what I'm doing wrong would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Dustin.

My H264 file won't play in JWplayer 5.2 until it's completely loaded.

The link you posted for the fix brings me to a blank page on Renaun's website.
Any other fix for this or location of a thread?

my file is an h264 with a quicktime .mov container.
please help! need to finish movie this week!

thanks!

thanks ethan, will try it tonight.
For the benefit of everyone having this issue,
does anyone else know of a one-stop method to fix this without using a 3rd party application?

so for example, it could be in the way we encode our H264 files on export from the get go to let it play immediately in the JWplayer without waiting for a full download.

thanks all!

Some video encoders have a "Quick Start" or "for the Internet" option that will place the boxes at the beginning of the video file, otherwise use MP4Box.
bc.. MP4Box -inter 0.5 videofilename.ext

Hi,

I'm having the same problem, but my files have been encoded as .flv files with Flash CS3 Video Encoder - the summary details are as follows:

_
Video encoded for payback with Flash Player 8 or higher
Video: On2 VP6 at 350kbps
Audio: MPEG Layer III (MP3) at 128kbps (stereo)
Resize: Width=518; Height=444
_

First question, the MP4 Box looks like an easier solution than using a 3rd party plugin... will it work for me? No idea how to use it though, or where to put it. Could you help with this Craterscore?

Second question, if I need to use Renaun's program, is this only for quicktime files? Do I need something different?

Thanks in advance,
Becky

1) Can someone place a link for the official source of MP4Box in this forum... none was provided here and doing a Google search comes up with lots of links for MP4Box, some of which are 3rd party redos and their efficacy is of "question". I think it would give everyone some peace-of-mind that they are getting the "official" version (if such a thing exists) that's free of any potential security and spam concerns. 2) The link for the QIndexWrapper indicates it's for Silverlight... is that so? Thanks

Here is a link to a program that is free called MP4 Fast Start, that I've just found and am testing as I write:

http://www.datagoround.com/lab/index.html

It downloads in a zip which contains the .exe (executeable). Just place the .exe onto your desktop and it's ready to run. I'm using Vista 64-bit and had no problem using it.

I'll report back here on whether it made any difference with the MP4 file I used it on.

Update on MP4 Fast Start: I process a copy of an MP4 file using MP4 Fast Start and uploaded both copies to my web server. The processed file does indeed start faster than the unprocessed file but still has a considerable delay. Compared to how fast a Flash FLV (or swf) file begins even the processed MP4 would be considered unsatisfactory.

I dont get it I can't even install http://renaun.com/blog/2007/08/22/234/ this app. When someone come to my Web site and try to watch video, first player downloads whole video then start to play :( what to do ? Nobody will wait for that.
