OGG Vobis support
I heard that the author of J-OGG made an actionscript version of vobis decoder library. Will JW Player support ogg as well?

If there’s an AS version i’ll definetily support it!
I cannot any download, example or contact info though. Do you know more?
does your player support ogg stream
At present not…
*@JeroenW*: Try asking Tor-Einar Jarnbjo <tor-einar at jarnbjo.name>. Good luck!
Tor sent me a nice email in return. In short, he built a complete decoder in actionscript himself, and used another library to push the raw PCM data into the videoplayback component. Fantastic work, but unfortunately the performance of actionscript is so terrible that it cannot be used to playback video in any decent way. So I’m afraid we’ll have to wait until Adobe (or Microsoft – Silverlight) will build OGG Vorbis decoding into the plugin itself.
But I think making a test build with OGG Vorbis decoder and PCM library for further testing will be more persuasive as all components are all lying on the ground.
It seems that it should not be a hard work, and I hope you can give it a try. Thank you very much.
The endgame is already here, Firefox 3.1 with OGG/THEORA support, will start a large ammount of online tv sites. OGGTV.COM and others will compete directly with flash and silverlight sites.
**bump** with yet another Vorbis engine
http://barelyfocused.net/blog/2008/10/03/flash-vorbis-player/
Interesting!
Unfortunately, the first Vorbis engine mentioned here was unable to play back more than a few frames/sec on even the fasted computers.
This one looks a lot better. It is FP10 though, which is still in beta. Promising, so it’s on the roadmap for the player.
Tor-Einar Jarnbjo's ActionScript 3 Vorbis decoder for Flash 10 is getting at least closer to haXe implementation.
The current version can be tested here:
http://flash.j-ogg.de/10/
this might be relevant also, especially since they also distribute the source code.

Very cool, thanks!
Technically i have nothing to say... as i don't know much about these. But i understand this is important... Proprietary Formats should end!!!

I have been trying to do some digging now that the new version of silverlight has been put out to see if it has ogg/theora support. I have not really been successful. I have seen a couple people asking for ogg/theora support in silverlight but I can't find anything to confirm. Has anyone heard anything?
I know this is an old post but has there been any news with Flash supporting the ogg/theora format?
It would be great to have this as I am looking to stream live events with icecast and currently icecast only supports ogg/theora.
yep, me too, hence me landing here on this thread. :-) count my vote: if it is possible to add ogg video streaming (from icecast or others) to what JW Player can support, that would be fantastic!
Why your web player can not play ogg files.

Your web player still not support ogg or ogv files
While the JW Player doesn’t currently have plans to integrate Vorbis or Theora support, there is now an API which allows developers to write their own custom media handlers (MediaProviders).
The MediaProvider SDK can be found here:

Looks like it has been 3 years since this discussion has begun. Does JW Player support OGG format yet?
If not, has anyone made a plugin so it can work?

@Ryan – It does.

Any news about Vorbis support?
I found interesting Ogg Vorbis library for flash. Maybe it would be useful for realization of this feature.
http://mauft.com/2010/11/ogg-vorbis-in-flash/
It isn’t wildly supported, so we are probably not going to do that, sorry.
Your player can be the first ;)
I can certainly ask around here if we are interested…
OGG Vorbis support in JW Player would be awsome.
Well, it works in the HTML5 player, just not Flash.
