I am using JW Player Wordpress Plugin on WP Version 2.9.2
Is it possible to use a preview image?
If so how?
Please help me
Yes, just set in the post image= and then set the path to image.
Example [jwplayer file=“file.flv” image=“image.jpg”/]
I tried something like that:
[jwplayer config=myplayer file="http://www.bpfuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/Introductory-Video.flv" image=http://www.bpfuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/thumbail01.jpg]
But still it is NOT showing the perview image.
Is full URL a problem?

Can you show me where you are running this? Possibly the config is overriding it?
Thank you, it worked
The problem with above tag was that qoute and see how actual qoute looks "

Ahh, great! :-)
I too am using the plugin and can't seem to get the poster image to work.
I am using the licensed version of the player (5).
I've uploaded the file through the media plugin interface, set the URL for the thumbnail (after testing the URL was correct) and I've also tried setting "image="http://url.com" in the short code and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
The URL is http://bookwritingsecrets.com/video-one/
Any help is super appreciated! I have tried it with a variety of plug-in (JW Player Plugin and WordTube) and am lost!
Thanks,
Hi Angie,
The issue is that your image cannot be found – http://bookwritingsecrets.com/content/BWWVideo1.jpg
Best,
-Ethan
Sorry, that was the wrong link - My Bad.
http://bookwritingsecrets.com/video-bww-sneak-peek/
I went to the source and copied and pasted in the image value and it came up in the browser correctly, so that's a step in the right direction.
And thanks so much for you fast reply!
Hi Ange,
You should upload the file again.
When I try to go to – http://bookwritingsecrets.com/content/SneakPeek/sneakpeek.jpg in a browser, it doesn’t load the image correctly, it just shows up blank for me. Try re-uploading the file, I think that’s the issue.
Best,
-Ethan
Okay,
I kind of gave up on this, and I know I'm just missing some simple step, so I've created a page just for this test.
I am using licensed 5 player through wordtube.
http://bookwritingworld.com/jw-player-test/
In the source, I can see the WP is stripping slashes, etc. but the movie plays.
This is the image location I put into wordtube
http://bookwritingworld.com/media_uploads/calls/BWW061710.jpg
and this is the movie location.
http://bookwritingworld.com/media_uploads/calls/BWW061710.mov
The movie plays, the poster doesn't show. I can see that WP is stripping slashes, but the movie loads, so I don't know. Anyway, I know I am missing something simple, so thanks in advance for your patience.
Hi Angie,
When I go to – http://bookwritingworld.com/media_uploads/calls/BWW061710.jpg in Firefox, the image does not load. Either something is wrong with the image file, it has not been uploaded correctly, or your server doesn’t allow of this file type.
Best,
-Ethan
YAY! That got me on the right path. For some reason the still image exports from QuickTime are unreadable by Firefox, and the JW player. Safari can see them, but that ended up hiding the problem from me, which was that the exports were unreadable, even though they were compressed as jpg or png. I exported from FCP and badabing! It worked.
Thanks so much for your help!
Np!
i just was getting ready to write a post with the same problem. i then noticed i also had the wrong kind of ". Apparently the pdf documentation has the instead of the ". So if you try to copy the code into your post and then insert your own file it will give you hell. Maybe they should update that in the PDF documentation...
I am having the same problem... I have read through this thread very carefully and I too am using a licensed version.
here is my shortcode:
[jwplayer config="Custom Player" mediaid="214" image="http://makegirlfriends.com/wp-content/themes/mg-custom/images/makegirlfriends_thumb2.jpg"]
the image displays without any problems when viewed in a browser but the player (on homepage) doesn't preview with the image.
Is there a config setting that overrides this?
thanks so much!
@Nancy – Can you provide a link to where you are running this?
http://www.makegirlfriends.com
Hi Nancy,
The issue here is that the player is trying to load the image from this location – http://makegirlfriends.com/wp-content/themes/mg-custom/images/kubrickbg-ltr.jpg, but as you can see by going to this page in a browser, it does not exist. That is the issue.
Best,
-Ethan
You saw my shortcode...how do I fix this problem? What could override the shortcode?
Please check the code of this page.
If I view the source of your page image shows up as being blank – “image”:"",
I would make sure that everything has been entered in correctly.
yes...I noticed that. Everything is being entered correctly (see short code above). Is there an instance where the player strips out an image due to size? The image itself (see URL) is larger than the player but I assumed the player would resize.
Nope, the player would not do that. It will always display an image, regardless of size. Check your short code in the WP-Admin to make sure.
here is the shortcode again...not trying to be difficult but this doesn't make sense.
[jwplayer config="Custom Player" mediaid="214" image="http://makegirlfriends.com/wp-content/themes/mg-custom/images/makegirlfriends_thumb2.jpg"]
@Nancy, that looks correct. Email your login/pw to support [at] longtailvideo [dot] com so we can actually take a look at what’s going on here.
I'm also having the same problem as Nancy. If I use [jwplayer config="w4player" mediaid="252" image="http://walters4.co.uk/testsites/walters4/wp-content/uploads/W4logobox.png"] no image is shown and I get "image":"" in the page source.
However if I edit the .flv in the media library and add the thumb url http://walters4.co.uk/testsites/walters4/wp-content/uploads/W4logobox.png then the image is shown. Does the media library over ride the shortcode?
Hi Just jumpin' in here...
I have followed the thread and am having the same issues. Even tried resizing to 300x150 and saved the thumbnail as png. I attached it to the media (.flv) in the media manager as well, but just a player with the default white background. Hopefully someone will find the trick and post it.
Thanks

I solved the problem. I had created the shortcode link in wordpress Visual mode. When I looked at it in HTML mode I found a spurious </strong> tag end in the middle of the shortcode - dunno how it got there. It wasn't showing up in Visual mode and basically screwed the shortcode syntax.
I too am using the plugin and can't seem to get the poster image to work.
I am using the licensed version of the player (5).
In the post I type...
[jwplayer config="Portfolio Player" mediaid="800" image="http://beta.handmadecssdesign.com/wp-content/medialibrary/leirilivro-video-presentation.png" 640 480]
BUT, when I upload the page the image does not show, the page can be found here...
http://beta.handmadecssdesign.com/portfolio/presentations/leirilivro-video-presentation/
When I do a view source for some reason the png gets changed to flv, how wierd is that? anyway the view source code is below...
<div id="jwplayer-2-div" name="jwplayer-2-div">
<object style="visibility: visible;" data="http://beta.handmadecssdesign.com/wp-content/plugins/jw-player-plugin-for-wordpress/player.swf" name="jwplayer-2" id="jwplayer-2" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" height="480" width="640"><param value="640" name="width"><param value="480" name="height"><param value="true" name="allowfullscreen"><param value="always" name="allowscriptaccess"><param value="transparent" name="wmode"><param value="9" name="version"><param value="movie" name="type"><param value="#FFFFFF" name="bgcolor"><param value="/expressinstall.swf" name="express_redirect"><param value="" name="class"><param value="config=http://beta.handmadecssdesign.com/wp-content/plugins/jw-player-plugin-for-wordpress/configs/Portfolio Player .xml&mediaid=800&image=http://beta.handmadecssdesign.com/wp-content/medialibrary//leirilivro-video-presentation.flv&0=640&1=480&file=http://beta.handmadecssdesign.com/wp-content/medialibrary//leirilivro-video-presentation.flv" name="flashvars"></object>
</div>
<script type="text/javascript">
swfobject.embedSWF("http://beta.handmadecssdesign.com/wp-content/plugins/jw-player-plugin-for-wordpress/player.swf", "jwplayer-2", "640", "480", "9", "/expressinstall.swf", {"config":"http://beta.handmadecssdesign.com/wp-content/plugins/jw-player-plugin-for-wordpress/configs/Portfolio Player .xml", "mediaid":"800", "image":"http://beta.handmadecssdesign.com/wp-content/medialibrary//leirilivro-video-presentation.flv", "0":"640", "1":"480", "file":"http://beta.handmadecssdesign.com/wp-content/medialibrary//leirilivro-video-presentation.flv"}, {"width":"640", "height":"480", "allowfullscreen":"true", "allowscriptaccess":"always", "wmode":"transparent", "version":"9", "type":"movie", "bgcolor":"#FFFFFF", "express_redirect":"/expressinstall.swf", "class":""}, {"id":"jwplayer-2", "name":"jwplayer-2"});
</script>
Please help me resolve this issue, thanks in advance!!!!!
@Nico – On the page you provided, if you view the source, you will see that the image flashvar is pointing to a FLV file, not an image – http://beta.handmadecssdesign.com/wp-content/medialibrary//leirilivro-video-presentation.flv
Hi Ethan thanks for the reply!
Well, thats is what I explained above. In Wordpress I type the following...
[jwplayer config="Portfolio Player" mediaid="800" image="http://beta.handmadecssdesign.com/wp-content/medialibrary/leirilivro-video-presentation.png" 640 480]
As you can can quite clearly see this is pointing to a .png. I save and upload, but then when I do a view source online the .png is converted into an .flv.
This is what is so wierd, why does it change it and is it reversible.
Again thanks in advance for the help.
Hi Ethan
No worries mate all sorted now.
The problem was that I was entering the information twice, once in the interface and once in the post so that was causing a conflict and it replaced the png with the flv.
THANKS for all the help again.
Np! Glad you got it all sorted! :)
Hi..I'm new to all this stuff so if I sound crazy please forgive me! I am using this plugin and i love it, I am currently displaying about 15 pictures on my website. I would like to beable to link certain pictures to other sites so that when some one clicks on the picture instead of going to the next picture it goes to another site..is this possible? I did have some one who answered all my questions but they just tried to exploit me financially so i had to let them go.
@Brit – Our Image Rotator would be a good product for you to use, check it out here – http://www.longtailvideo.com/players/jw-image-rotator/
