IE10 Update has broken JW Player

I think this is more of a "heads up" than an actual question.

The latest Windows update included KB2817183, a cumulative security update for IE10. It has broken JW Player. Your own demo page (http://www.longtailvideo.com/jw-player/) doesn't work properly any longer. The error message is "Error loading media / File could not be played."

I've encountered related problems with videos in IE10 with this update installed, including the YouTube player (not going through JW Player at all), problems like sound tracks from videos continuing to play even after a Javascript-generated player window has been closed. In short, Microsoft has done something very ugly.

Uninstalling that Windows update appears to cure all of the problems.

Oh, and turn off automatic updates, or you'll get saddled with the same buggy piece of crap again!

Odd…

Do you have the issues here? – http://www.longtailvideo.com/html5/formats/

I reinstalled KB2817183 by itself on both my machines (Win7/64 and Win7/32), and the basic JW Player error messages finally disappeared (they were very consistent last night, when I was wrestling with this, and vanished as soon as I removed the IE10 update).

The HTML5 page you linked to doesn't cough up any problems.

I still have some issues, but these have to do with embedding JW Player in a Highslide JS expander, and some of the problems are showing up just calling the regular YouTube player, so that's not a JW Player issue. (The problems manifest themselves as the sound track continuing to play after the expander has been closed, or you've moved to the next object in the gallery.)

At this point, I don't know what's going on. I do hate IE with a blind passion....

The new update enables ActiveX filtering. Settings - Safety - ActiveX Filtering. Turn it off.

Is there a fix for this issue in JWPlayer? It may be difficult to instruct all end-users to do something like the above.

You should try to disable stagevideo in your player set up, that might help. Do you have an example link though?
