Hi there,

RTMP was initially developed to stream audio, video, and data over the web between a Flash player and a server. RTMP also requires dedicated server software and can often be blocked by firewalls. Flash-based video was not in-line with future industry standards which is why RTMP playback is not supported in JW Player 8. We recommend instead using a different streaming format, such as HLS or MPEG-DASH.

You can read more about the browsers and devices we support, along with the media formats supported in those browsers and devices, on the following support articles:

https://support.jwplayer.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1403653-browser-device-reference
https://support.jwplayer.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1403635-media-format-reference

In terms of hosting content, you can always host with us and automatically get HLS output from our hosting. Something to also note is if you are utilizing live streams and they are under six hours long we can also host them.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you!
