Problem loading and playing HLS on IOS with JW Player 7.12.8

When visiting the JW Player stream tester on iPhone 6s+ with IOS 10.3.3 on production release for IOS of Chrome or Safari as of today, the player is dark, without a loading spinner or play button. Only the audio icon control is visible. The video will play if you tap on the black screen.

Why are we not seeing a loading spinner or play button, or seeing the video auto play?

We are seeing the same behavior when we try to use the player on our app with HLS on iPhone

Safari on iOS has native HLS playback, so our player simply passes the URL directly into a <video> tag and leaves Safari alone to control the entire viewer experience. This is also why there is no HD button on the player in iOS, as Safari is controlling the quality selection and we do not have a way to change it (so we just do not display the button). It is possible that Safari’s native player is not reporting back to us that they are buffering, which is why we are not displaying a buffering icon.

I wil need to test and confirm with our product manager before I get back to you on this.
