HLS and video count

Hi,

I was wondering, HLS is supported with the Premium plan. This plan offers 500 videos. My question is, with HSL what counts as a 'video'? I ask because HSL is a bunch of segmented files. Or is HLS even supported as videos from my account? Do they need to be hosted elsewhere?

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Chris,

An HLS file is considered one video even though it has multiple quality source files in the manifest. If you upload a video to our dashboard you will see only one video in your videos tab.
While you don’t have to host your content on our platform, I recommend that you at least upload the video url to our dashboard so that you can take advantage of other features like analytics.

Thanks Daniel,

How would I upload the segments? It appears that the system is geared for single file uploads.

Cheers,
Chris

Chris,

You would not upload the segments individually. We will demux and transcode the video to create the HLS file. You are welcome to try our premium subscription for 30 days. If you are not satisfied we will issue you a full refund. Here are two articles that review our uploading process:

Thanks again,

One more quick question. Is there a limit to the length of the video? Our videos are tutorials and can be quite long.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks again,

The TOS does show that there are limits on bandwidth & storage (perhaps it would be an idea to put that on the pricing page). There is also a 'recommended' duration of 60 min. We produced in depth software tutorials and most of them run far longer than that. To get around this we would have to break each video into chapters, does your system have a way to manage the media by using folders?

Also with the storage and bandwidth limits, as your system does the transcoding, is there a way to control the bitrate (so we can control the storage used)?

Thanks,
Chris
