HLS + URLs

Hi there,
I know that to access HLS features I need to upgrade my account, but before I do this, I'd like to know whether I will still be able to add videos via URLs (not upload them to your servers) in this case? Or is this feature only available for HTML5 and Flash video players only?

You are able to add links to external content to your account via the j"JW Dashboard()":https://account.jwplayer.com/#/home or the platform API /videos/create endpoint.

I specifically need to test HLS, but before I upgrade and start using it, I need to know, whether I will be able to add URL to my own videos and stream them with the help of HLS.

You can add a direct link to the HLS manifest (m3u8) in the dashboard or via the API. You can try it now and just test with Safari on desktop/mobile or android. You can also test your URL on our JW Player Stream Tester

https://demo.jwplayer.com/stream-tester/ - this link is unavailable

And also, I checked this article here: https://support.jwplayer.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1430218-using-hls-streaming and there is that red notice that I need no upgrade to access that feature.

So there is no way I can test it with a free account?

Sorry, here is the updated URL = > https://developer.jwplayer.com/tools/stream-tester/. What red notice are you referring to?

Thanks for the new link, it works.

But now I have another question.
I was able to test the video I uploaded to your servers https://content.jwplatform.com/manifests/3DHRLusA.m3u8.
But the one that was only embedded via URL doesn't work: https://content.jwplatform.com/manifests/a3LxBTnV.m3u8

a3LxBTnV is a mediaID for an externally hosted video – we only create streams for content we host. At this point it is my understanding that JW 8 will not require a paid subscription for HLS playback. Therefore, I suggest you create a new cloud-hosted JW 8 beta player on your account if you want to test HLS playback.
