Closed Captioning

We recently upgraded from 7.2 to 7.9 and the closed captioning has stopped working as expected. We have the VTT file in the same content folder on Wowza, and it had always worked in the past. I can force 7.9.3 to enable CC if I add the file to the embedded code, but in previous versions, the "CC" button would appear only if needed. Thanks

What happens in the latest version of the player? Also, this seems like a Wowza issue. Can you make a demo page so I can reproduce this?

here are two pages that use identical code other than pointing to a different version of the player. When the 724 version is used, the CC button appears automatically. When using the 793 version, there is never an option for CC. However, I can see the captions and enable them on my iOS devices, just not in any browsers I have tested. thanks

Injecting captions into RTMP streams is not something we currently support. It looks like this functionality happened to have worked in 7.2.4, but stopped working around 7.4.0. Since most browsers are moving away from flash, and support for flash is ending in JW 8 I recommend you use HLS for both mobile and desktop playback instead of RTMP.

Thank you for the response. We are definitely moving away from flash, but I do not understand why when I load the new player in Chrome, the caption option does not appear. Does the new version no longer auto detect a VTT file present or is the configuration different?

That stream doesn’t work in some of the versions of the player that were released between 7.2.4 and 7.12.5. Injected captions are only supported in HLS so I would not expect an RTMP stream to display captions unless you pointed to them in the player.setup().
