Flash/RTMP playback in Edge player

Flash/RTMP playback works in Chrome and IE 11, but not Edge.

I am using JW player 7.12.1 with Wowza 4.

Flash is enabled in Advanced Settings, and I have confirmed that Flash work in Adobe's help page: https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html

I have added primary: "flash" to the player

I am using the JW Player free version in development, but my customer will (I assume) use a paid version, so I will be able to use HLS (using Wowza) but I'd prefer to use RTMP for its low latency.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Richard

Hi Richard,

I believe this may be due to how Edge in the Windows 10 Creators Update handles Flash. Can you let me know what version of Windows 10 you are running by going to Settings > System > About and letting me know what is the number for the Version?

Thank you.

Hi Alex,

It is:

Windows 10 Pro
Version 1703
OS Build 15063.483

Thanks for getting back to me,
Richard

Hi Richard,

Thank you for that information. Version 1703 is the Windows 10 Creators Update so it definitely looks like this is the issue. I’ll have to escalate this to our Engineering team but since it is Flash, it is likely to be a low priority.

The good news is that HLS playback in Windows 10 does not require Flash so when you upgrade to Premium, this issue will no longer affect you.

Thank you.

Thanks, Alex. I understand the low-priority of Flash and appreciate you all looking into it. RTMP's low-latency is critical to the application where operators viewing live streams will be on the phone with a person in the field. I know I can reduce HLS latency (The customer has purchased a paid JW Player license) with short key frame intervals and Wowza's cupertinoChunkDurationTarget setting, and I might do that but the customer will more likely just steer clear of the Edge browser. The users will not be in the wild, so that limitation is not a show-stopper.
