Does __page-url__ read parent url or iframe url?

JWPlayer,

I want to be able to see what domains pre-rolls are being called from. I like how the macros open up possibilities for __referrer__ and __page-url__ and __domain__ . But, now I have questions:

1. What is difference between __referrer__ and __page-url__?

2. I have the player in an iframe on domain "playerdomain.com". The embed/iframe is found on "parentdomain.com". Do any of these macros report "parentdomain.com" for analytical keeping of pre-roll impressions?

I need to keep track of impressions of the parent domain, not the iframe domain the player is in. Is this possible?

Cheers
Ryan

Hello,

Answers to your questions below:

1. What is difference between referrer and page-url

>>__referrer__ would be the domain name for the page you clicked to get to the video (like a home page with a link, for example), and page-url would be the page you are watching video in right now

2. I have the player in an iframe on domain “playerdomain.com”. The embed/iframe is found on “parentdomain.com”. Do any of these macros report “parentdomain.com” for analytical keeping of pre-roll impressions?

I need to keep track of impressions of the parent domain, not the iframe domain the player is in. Is this possible?

>>We highly recommend using the Javascript embed codes from the dashboard, as opposed to the iframe embed. Is there some reason you need to user an iframe? If you do use the iframe embed, you are correct, you will need to put DNS masking in place to have your ad impression fire from your desired domain name, as opposed to content.jwplatform.com
