hls streaming with jwplayer 6 premium account

Hi we have premium license for jwplayer 6 but it seems that the new license for jwplayer 7 is not full version because streaming hls does not work(the stream works well with the stream tester. Do we need to pay for the upgrade?

Hi,

Thank you for exploring our product. I see that you currently have a free JW 7 account. You would have to purchase a JW 7 premium account or above to utilize adaptive streaming: https://www.jwplayer.com/pricing/

Hi Daniel thank you for fast reply.
Thats right this account is only to test jwplayer 7. The other account with jwplayer 6 premium license is marcel@mybit.nl. So correct me if I'm wrong upgrading to jwplayer 7 = new license ?

Exactly right. You would need to purchase a new account with our JW Player 7 product (with the link above).

Last question can you confirm that jwplayer 6 premium doesn't do hls streaming? and is het possible to get a trial license first?

JW Player version 6 used adaptive streaming in Flash mode. However, as you may know, many of the browsers are moving away from Flash.
Unfortunately, we don’t provide trials for our premium subscription.

That's too bad since we want to make sure first that everything works before buying the license. If i can show to my manager that all streams works then i can convince them to buy the license.

You are welcome to implement your videos in our stream tester to confirm that they will play in our player. Here is a link: https://developer.jwplayer.com/tools/stream-tester/

Hi Daniel i have test the stream on th stream tester. It works great with chrome, firefox and safari but unfortunately not with ie11.
It seems that ie11 still needs flash to play hls stream. Can you confirm this?

I am glad to hear that you explored our stream tester. You are correct that IE 11 will require Flash for HLS content. That is a limitation of IE not our player.

Hi Daniel,

My manager asked me about the streaming quota for premium account (250GB Streaming/month 100k video plays/month). It's not really clear what it means.
We have our own wowza server and we only need jwplayer to play the video on our website.
I presume that the quote only if we upload the video to jwplayer server?
Can you please confirm this?

Hi again,

Good question. Hosting and streaming limits only apply to content uploaded directly to our platform. Your content, hosted and delivered by Wowza, would not be restricted by these limits.
Play limits apply to all content despite where it is hosted. A play is counted when the first frame of a video loads on our player. The limit for Plays is a soft limit, meaning your account and players will remain active even if you pass your monthly limit. We review Plays per account individually to figure out if this is a one time overage or if there’s a pattern of exceeding the limits, in which our Sales team will reach out about upgrading.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
