Player loses focus after clicking on the controlbar

If you click on the video display, the video will get focus and you can use the shortcut keys, but if you click on anything on the controlbar (play/pause button, progress bar, etc.) the player will lose focus and you can no longer use the shortcut keys.

Was there a reason for choosing this design, or is this a bug? Is there a simple way to change this behavior so that the video will always get focus when anything inside is clicked?
