Dynamically calling playAd on a cloud-hosted player

I'm trying to call playAd on a cloud-hosted player but it seems it's ignoring the call to playAd. If I enable advertising on the player, then I have to specify a url to my vast, but I want to dynamically specify it on page.

I'm not getting an errors - it simply isn't playing the ad.

Is there a way to dynamically call playAd on page when using the cloud-hosted player?
