HLS Segment Length

Has any of the collective worked with shorter ts segment lengths (1/2 of the spec) and if so what length and what experience did you have as a result.

I have seen fragments ranging from two seconds to thirty seconds. Our player should handle them all without a problem. I guess it depends more on the bitrate or the download size of each in terms of performance.
