"Error loading media: file could not be played" with JW 7.4.4 on Android

Hello,

I recently upgraded to JW Player 7.4.4 and while everything seems to work ok on desktop browsers (with and without flash), chrome android does not play back video, instead presenting the "Error loading media: file could not be played" message.

Here's a demo page -> https://stage.imagexaminer.com/videotest_learningcore.html

Any thoughts? I'm not sure if it's an encoding issue or mime type issue (or something entirely different).

Also, what happened to "embedding" category? I had to place this on Streaming since I couldn't find that.

Thanks.

Hi,

Any particular reason you chose that method of embedding the videos? There’s a lot of extra custom code there to debug. Try narrowing it down to a single entry with a single file.

Hi George,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, there are valid reasons behind the code. I've uploaded a simplified version so it's easier to debug. The problem persists, both in HTTPS and HTTP. https://stage.imagexaminer.com/videotest_jw.html

Also, this may be unrelated but I'm getting the "No playable sources found" error on Firefox (latest) without Flash.

Any ideas?

Best.

Hey Aaron,

I’d suggest only using HLS or MP4. Skip the RTMP version. Then it should work on Android.

Hi George,

Thanks for the prompt response. I removed the RTMP and left only the HTML5 version (HQ and LQ), but while I'm no longer getting the error, the video isn't playing either and I'm getting "NaN:NaN" in the video player (instead of a valid duration time). It still plays on Chrome so I know the URL is correct.

Thoughts?

Thanks again for your help.

Best,

mc

Hello Aaron,

So, the issue is related to the Captions. There was an issue with Captions and Android Chrome in our 7.4.x release that is fixed in our 7.5 beta.

Here’s a test page:

You can get the player beta from your dashboard by going to Players > Tools and selecting the Beta channel from the dropdown next to the JW 7 library link.

Hi George,

That's great news, thank you! Do you know when the production release is coming for 7.5?

Hey Aaron,

It usually sits in Beta for about 2 weeks, sometimes more depending if there are any bugs reported.

Thank you George! I'll open a separate thread for the Firefox/No Playable Sources issue.
