how to see how long video is before watching or while watching it

How can you see how long, the total time length of a video commercial while viewing.it or before viewing it? These guys talk and talk, for an eternity and I'd like to know how long their presentation is beforehand...like when you are on you tube, at least you can see the time length in the bar. Also, any way to pause, or advance, the video commercial.
