VPAID NOT Compatible with JWPLAYER7

Hello team,

I have found a race condition where 5% of the time the VPAID1.0 tag video will not play on JW7. However, the audio content of that same tag will play.

In order to reproduce, you have to refresh the page consecutively multiple times. Sometimes refreshing multiple times before the previous page was loaded helps reproducing the black screen.

With VPAID ads, we do not have any control over the playback or appearance of the ad once it is received to play. If the video is blank for you intermittently, I would suggest you contact your ad network for troubleshooting. Please note, however, that I have loaded your ad tag in our Ad Tester and refreshed it about 20 times without issue.

I have used that tag in JW5 and JW6 and could not reproduce the issue which made me think of a regression bug.
Also, that tag has been used for a long time in production and I don't believe anything is wrong with it. I will however contact the ad network to see if they can provide us some answer.
Could you please look into that tag again? The ad Tester you provided does not include autoplay, or URL reloads which may be part of the problem.

That doesn't sound like controls from the VPAID 1.0 tag.

  • Have you been able to reproduce the issue with the latest version of the player (7.2.4)?
  • Have you been able to reproduce the issue while embedding the player, with the ad, on a test page with no other JavaScript or CSS, as outlined on our Creating a Reproduction Page support article? This goes a long way to determining if the issue lies in our player, or not.

Both questions, yes. I could reproduce in 7.2.4. And I could reproduce in a simple page. I couldn't reproduce when autoplay was set to false.
