Flash player in Safari on Max OS broken since 7.2.0

Try visiting any 7.2+ player rendered using Flash on Safari (Mac OS) and you get a error:

"Failed to setup Flash - JSON.stringify cannot serialize cyclic structures"

Check it on www.jwplayer.com

PS: All your example videos in the support site are failing to load due to "Invalid Licence key". Embarrassing.

I have had a customer complain of the same error message. I am also getting:
"failed to set up flash
converting circular structure to JSON"

On Windows 10 with chrome.

This is happening on the JW site as well as embedding.

@James Are you still seeing this error? I just checked www.jwplayer.com in Safari 8.0.8 on Mac OS X 10.10.5 with Flash 19.0.0.245 and I am not seeing the same error. I have also escalated the “Invalid Licence key” error you saw to our engineers.

Hi Todd

So, on one of my Macs running OS X 10.10.5 with Safari 9.0.1 it DOES work (although it initially flashes a message about a plugin failed to load).

On the other Mac running OS X 10.7.5 with Safari 6.1.6 (which appears to be the latest for that OS) it doesn't work.

However, using JW7.1.5 instead of anything above JW7.2.0 and it works on both.

Thank you, James. We will look into OS X 10.7.5 with Safari 6.1.6 to determine what caused this change between 7.1.5 and 7.2.2.

Hi, James.

I have heard back from our Engineers and it looks like this was caused by changes in our player that were made to support newer versions of some browsers. However, they will take a deep dive into this issue and will look into a resolution for the 7.3.0 release, which should come out in the next few weeks. You can keep an eye on our JW 7 Release Notes page as we post release notes and bug fixes with every new update.

Please let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions.

Thank you!

Hi,
the "Failed to setup flash. Converting circular structure to JSON" situation happened on my customer's Chrome, Win 7,
but it works fine on my machine, also Chrome with Win 7.

Hi, there.

If your customer’s version of Chrome is outdated, they may be seeing this issue. Our engineers are currently working on seeing if they can resolve this issue, but since it looks like its only affecting older browsers, the best thing to do is to suggest that your customer update their version of Chrome.

Thanks.

Having the same issue on Macbook Pro running OS X 10.6.8, with Safari 5.1.10 tying to view webcam hosted by HDonTap.com at URL http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=1592549&mode=2
Last year we watched this site every day. This year the URL opens, but the video window displays Failed to Setup Flash, JSON.stringify cannot serialize cyclin structures. I have tried updating and reinstalling flash multiple times. Flash is version 20.0.0.

Downloaded and installed Google Chrome for Mac on the same Macbook Pro listed above running OS X 10.6.8, and the webcams hosted by HDonTap now open and display properly. There appears to be a compatibility issue with JW Player and the Safari browser version 5.1.10, and possibly other versions of Safari.
