Remembering Quality Selection

In the simplest case, there is only a HD and a non-HD version of a video available. You can toggle between both via the HD button and the JW Player will remember the choice according to http://support.jwplayer.com/customer/portal/articles/1428524-hd-quality-toggling.

When more than two options are provided however, that means rather than HD on/off you provide a video in 240p, 360p, 480, 720p and 1080p resolution, JW Player doesn't remember the choice any longer. It always falls back to the default rather than remembering the label that was chosen last.

I guess the developers of JW Player need to extend their settings logic to remember the label?

Hi, there.

We are making some changes to how we remember the different states of the player in the upcoming 7.2.0 version, which is tentatively scheduled to be released on November 11. We’re moving from using cookies to using LocalStorage and I spoke with our engineers and they said what you are looking for should work, although there is an issue when using a YouTube video as a source.

If you want to try the pre-release version now, we actually just released a new feature that will allow you to do so! You can do this by logging into your Account Dashboard, going to “Players”, clicking on your particular player and then toggling the option under the “Advanced” menu. You have a few options in that menu, but you would want to choose “Beta”, since that refers to 7.2.0. You can read more about this feature at our Using Release Channels support article.

Please note that this feature is only available with cloud-hosted players. To find out the difference between cloud-hosted and self-hosted players, please see our Basic Video Embed support article.

As of right now, we are targeting November 11 for the production release of 7.2.0, but this is subject to change. You can keep an eye on our JW 7 Release Notes page as we post release notes and bug fixes with every new update.

Please let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions.

Thank you!
