I have a nettlesome issue.

I have a nettlesome issue.

I am a engineer in my company in Korea.
I have got a project to make our system based on internet to play a mp4 video by rtmp streaming.
but as maybe you know, there are many problems about browser compatibility..

I wonder if jw player can play a rtmp video on IE8 in pc and in mobile including android and iOS no matter how much the price of licence is.
if needed, I can pay.

the emvironment for our system involves from IE6 to IE11, chrome, mobile web in android and safari in iOS of iphone or ipad.

we need any player which can play a mp4 video on these browsers by rtmp streaming.

I tried using your JW7 with free licence.

https://content.jwplatform.com/previews/WpFWltjG-eaUs6m1F

but this is useless on my IE8 environment because It don't work with any script errors in addition not to work on mobile web, mobile chrome, mobile firefox and mobile safari.

can the JW7 with premium licence do this?

Internet Explorer 9 is the minimum browser that is supported. This is because of two things, focus on majority and security ( Microsoft support for the browser)

Also, no mobiles will play rtmp since rtmp requires flash player - and flash is not in the mobile device ecosystem.

Hi, there.

RTMP playback will work in any browser, with any one of our licenses, as long as the viewer has Adobe Flash Player installed. Obviously, this means that they will not be able to stream RTMP on any mobile device. This is a limitation of RTMP, and we do not have any control over it.

I would recommend using HLS or MPEG-DASH instead. You can read about the compatibility with different streams and browsers at our Browser & Device Reference, along with our Support Media Formats support articles.

Also, due to Microsoft terminating support for Internet Explorer 8 in January, JW Player 7 does not support that browser. JW 7 only supports IE 9 and higher.

Please let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions.

Thank you!

thank you for your kind answers.
I read the links you wrote.
I could also use HLS protocol instead of RTMP.
the link show that HLS is supported on IE with flash and Mobile Web with HTML5 in android 4.1+ but only using premium licence+.
then.. I wonder if HLS with a premium JW7 is able to be supported on IE8 with flash.
I know that IE8 and under IE8 such as IE7 and IE6 can use a flash player.
I hope that it is able to be supported.
If it can, is there the way how can I get any test link on my system?
thank you.

JW 7 does not support IE8 but JW version 6 does. I am not sure if you buy a license now that they provide version 6 as well... since previous license holders are still able to use version 6 - you may have to reach out to the staff via email and ask the question

Hi, there.

We actually have a test page that you can load up in IE 8 and paste your HLS stream’s URL into it and see if it works. It may work in IE 8, but we won’t support it if it doesn’t.

Also, Mark is correct – our JW 6 player does support IE 8, so if you have problems using the HLS stream in IE 8 with JW 7, you may want to try using JW 6. Any customer who purchases a subscription to JW Player 7 has access to both JW 7 and JW 6, as a player you can download and self-host on your server.

The URL to our Stream Tester is http://demo.jwplayer.com/stream-tester

Please let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions.

Thank you for your answer.

I tried testing on your link for stream test.

It work well on safari in iPad.
but unfortunately It don't work on my android phone which has the 4.4.2 version.

I read "Can only be enabled on by setting the option "androidhls: true" within your JW Player embed. HLS will only work on Android 4.1+." on your link "Support Media Formats".
and I guess that androidhls option is set as false in the steam test link.
if it so be, can I use any link to test HLS on android?

in addition, my web browser of IE8 in PC has any javascript error as soon as your stream test link is loaded..maybe due to JW7 not JW6

To make a purchase of licence, we need confidence that JW player is a solution for our project.
is there any testing page based on JW6?

please let me apologize many annoying requests to you.

thank you.

Hi, there.

I created two test pages, both using your HLS stream. One is using JW6 with the androidhls: true option included. The other is using JW7 without the option, since JW7 no longer requires it.

JW7 – http://qa.jwplayer.com/~abussey/61109-hls-android-jw7.html
JW6 – http://qa.jwplayer.com/~abussey/61109-hls-android-jw6.html

Both links work for me in Chrome for Android, running on a Nexus 4 with Android 5.0.2 installed.

As for IE, I just tested the above JW6 link on IE 8 in Windows 7 and it works fine, as long as you have Adobe Flash Player installed. In the JW7 link, the player will not even load due to the fact that IE 8 does not support all of the JavaScript we use in our player.

Please let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions.

Thank you!

thank you for your effort.
I tested your new link for testing HLS on JW6 and JW7
and finally it work everywhere I want.
I got a confirm from our company to buy your licence.
I may make a purchase of the licence after some test.
how can I get the JW6 version after I buy the licence in your homepage?

Hi, there.

When you purchase our JW Player 7 product, you have the ability to embed our player in your page via two separate methods.

  1. Cloud-Hosted Player – A cloud-hosted player is where you configure all of your player options on the Account Dashboard and then are provided an embed code to place in your code. The player will appear just as if you configured it. The player version used with cloud-hosted players are always up-to-date, so they would be version 7.1.4, as of right now.
  1. Self-Hosted Player – Also in your Account Dashboard, you have access to a page where you can download the barebones JavaScript players for both JW 7 and JW 6. You would host this player on your server and configure it solely in the setup block of your code.

Both embed options are explained in further detail on our Basic Video Embed support article.

In order to use JW 6 with a new account, you would have to use the Self-Hosted Player option.

Please let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions.

Thank you!
