I have gotten our logo to work but not the abouttext. According to the Branding Page (http://wwwappskc.lonestar.edu/cgi/video/itpoh2015.html), "Each of these features is now fully supported with JW Player 7 across all versions, including free." Is that no longer true?

It is definitely true that you should be able to add a logo, text and a link in the menu that appears when you right-click a JW Player 7 instance, even in free mode.
Unfortunately, however, there’s currently a bug that is preventing users of our free player from getting this to work. The good news is there’s a fix for this currently in the pipeline that should be rolling out with 7.2.0 in the coming weeks, however that is subject to change.
