DASH kills Chromecast

If you won't be developing Chromecast to support DASH , I don't care, right now because I will use DASH and HLS second
\\

But, currently if you include a DASH stream as the first in the sources list then Chromecast will ignore the whole video and skip to the next playlist item, instead of playing the HLS
\\

If you include HLS first and DASH second in the sources, then yes, it works. However, this makes the use of DASH at all completely pointless

Hi!

Chromecast itself supports MPEG-DASH, so our player should be able to cast a DASH stream. Do you have a link where you have the player in question setup and we can see if we can work it out?

Thanks!

Please refer to this page
https://videodesk.tv/dashoncc.html

Note the sources of the two playlist items are reversed

First item is HLS first, DASH second - PLAYS ON CC
Second item is DASH first, HLS second - DOES NOT PLAY ON CC

Please fix quick

Hi, Mark.

I’ve been told by our Engineers that support for casting DASH content in our player is not yet available, but is on the roadmap for implementation. Unfortunately, I do not have a timeline.

Please feel free to keep an eye on our JW Player 7 Release Notes page, as we update it whenever a new version comes out.

Please let me know if you need any more help or have any other questions.

Thank you!

I understand this Alex but the problem is that the player should find the HLS stream and at least play that,.
Currently DASH is pointless if you want to cast.
Ideally you would go DASH first and HLS second.
So, again, I care not if DASH can cast right now, I do care that it should play the HLS stream if it is second in line.
This fix is more important than when DASH will cast

Hi, Mark.

I will pass this along to our engineers, but if you specify a DASH stream first and if the browser is capable of playing it, it will play the DASH stream, thus making the user not able to cast the content. There is no current way of still displaying the Cast button and then cast the HLS stream if the browser is playing DASH. Again, our Engineers are working hard on fixing this, but I do not have a timeline as of yet.

Hi,

I'm just answering here as i saw that on new jwplayer roadmap, you guys say :

Fixed playback of HLS on Chromecast when the primary source is DASH. (DASH is not supported on Chromecast.)

This is not true. Jwplayer may not support dash with chromecast but whromecast support dash
