JW Player with 2 pre-roll tags - device selection

Hi Support,

I have a question concerning device selection and two separate VAST tags for HMTL5 or Flash pre-rolls.

Is it possible to setup the JW Player in such a way to allow for making a selection between one of two tags depending on the device selection of the player?

E.g. If the JW Player detects a Flash compatible device, it will playback the Flash VAST tag. If the JW Player detects a HTML5 only compatible device (or mobile), it will playback the HTML5 tag.

It could also be that this has to be configured in combination with the adserver. In that case, I can imagine the player needs to pass back the device detection information to the adserver. How can i setup the player to provide this info to the adserver, so that it will know which tag to use (Flash or HTML5)?

You could potentially use a specific ad tag that loads with the player config depending on a scenario met. Otherwise, you may be able to use a tag waterfall with a VPAID ad in the first slot, which will fall back to an HTML5 compatible ad as a backup.

Hi Joris,

Your ad network should be the provider of these tags. Otherwise, you could potentially create your own static VAST, but you’d need these integrated with some form of ad server for reporting/tracking.

Thank for the reply, but if you are talking about VAST tag, i already have 2 of these from my ad network: 1 VAST tag for a HMTL5 playout, 1 VAST tag for a Flash playout.

To provide a clearer picture of my situation: I am currently using a Revive adserver and have the 2 ad network VAST 2 tags (1 HTML5 and 1 Flash) with which i want to serve pre-rolls to my desktop and mobile visitors. The question I am facing is: Is it possible to target all my visitors with the 2 tags (Flash or otherwise HTML5 depending on device compatibility). How would i setup my JW Player to accomodate this?
