Can someone help me with linking a stream from akamai to a jw player? Can I use the platform as a hosted player?

You’ll need to contact akamai to create the actual stream. If you’re using an HDS stream, you will also need to make sure to use their own provider. Otherwise, you’ll be able to use an HLS and RTMP stream natively.
