Does jw player support encrypted akamai HLS m3u8 streams on chromecast ?
i wonder if jw player supports casting akamai encrypted hls m3u8 streams to tv via chromecast ? Furthermore , can we cast to chromecast from iphone if we load a jw player in safari?
The Chrome browser should be used in all cases of casting. We’re also in the process of supporting HLS with our next version, and I believe we should be supporting AES encryption with this as well. I’ll double check with our team. :)
Thanks for reply .So if i load jw player 6.12 on chrome browser in iphone i will be able to cast Akamai Hd Encrypted HLS m3u8 streams to tv via chromecast ? or do i need a desktop chrome browser ?
Furthermore, if i want to cast videos from website that running jw player . What should i add to jw player code ? (i am talking about unencrypted videos in this case). What steps should i follow ? is there any tutorial on how to cast enable videos on website ?
Chromecast is currently only supported on Chrome browsers. In this case, the same scenario exists on iOS devices. So Chrome must be used on iOS to get this functional.
Also, we have some support articles on casting here:
http://support.jwplayer.com/customer/portal/topics/677400-tv-casting/articles
This should explain a bit on how to set it up, but this feature is only available for enterprise customers. We need to keep a few items private to prevent unauthorized use, but if an enterprise account is being used, you can contact support and we’ll send the information you need.
Hello Andrew ( and qamer) With great frustration I have to advise that ever since IOS8 has been around the Chromecast on Chrome for IOS is broken. It does not work. The company knows this and I am patiently waiting for them to fix it, please advise what the status is to a solution
In fact it has been 3 months since I reported IOS8 Chromecast failure. Do you think you could start earning the money that you take from my credit card each month... and fix it hey?
This is still something that we are looking into, and indeed it seems like Chromecast with iOS 8 is still causing an issue. So yes, as a caveat, iOS8 has affected Google’s Chromecasting ability through the browser.
This hasn't worked on Chrome for Android in a while either. I don't think it's a JW Player issue as I've also tried casting an HLS stream from a separate website that uses a basic video tag. Doesn't work either.
Chrome for android is a joke. Chromecast is a Google product, Chrome for Android a Google product - you would think they would be able to cast together on a Galazy Note 4 - but no, it is crap and then some.
